I have a table with lots of dates, costs and categories, eg;
Date cost cat
01-1-2007 20 1
02-1-2007 30 1
05-1-2007 50 1
08-2-2007 25 1
15-2-2007 80 1
18-2-2007 20 1
Then I do a sum with group by on month and cat:
...
