Hooray. I got it. And by sheer randomness too. I had tried to run a delete query before (one that I had copied from another db and modified for this one) and that didn't do anything.

For some fluke reason I decided to rewrite the delete query from scratch and, of course, it deleted the record just fine.

I did nothing different between the 1st delete query and the 2nd but for some reason the 2nd one took. How access...

Here' s what I'm doing (with little success mind you).

So I've narrowed the corruption down to those few records. I copied all of the records that were not corrupt and put them into a new table. When I run the forms from this table everything works fine. The problem is that the ID field for the table has to be an autonumber. However I can't just change the field to an autonumber after i've pasted the new records (i get an error message...

I try opening and viewing the records just from the backend. So i open the table and scroll down the records. I found some with ASCII characters and deleted them. But there's one spot where as soon as the record appears on screen (or where it would be... it doesn't display the record just a large white bloch) when it appears, access crashes. That might make deleting it a little but trickier.

Any back-up plans, or other ways to delete...

    Dreaded corruption strikes again

The nightmare that is corruption. Every programmers greatest fear. And I am not immune to it either unfortunately. This is the first corruption I've had to deal with so I was hoping some people with a bit more experience could give me a hand with this one.

In Access 2003 I have a front end and a back end. The front end works fine until it calls upon a certain table. And for some reason (corruption) calling this table in certain forms...

  • The query that calls the data is calling it correctly. It draws from 3 different queries. One that has the 5:00 - 24:00 on the front end of the search date, one that gets all the middle dates, then another the gets the info from 00:01 - 4:59 on the last day. I have another report that does the same function as this report, however it only does one day. That report works fine (because there is no need to group).

    In the report I'm working...

Date and Time grouping for Production Reports

    Hey Team,

Here's one for you all to ponder. In Access 2003, I'm updating a Operations Database for a manufacturing plant. The data is of production runs for the plant. So there are start date's and start times for each run. For example on monday march 10 there could have been entries like 5:00 - 13:00 (..data from shift), 13:00 - 21:00 (data from shift).. etc.

The report that i'm working on displays all production runs...

  • Thanks ALI,

I would love to see what application you have up your sleeve.

How will you 'send' it? will you PM it, email or simply post it? If you haven't guessed from my lack of posts, I am somewhat new to this process.

    Thanks for the help...

  • Well I apologive for my personable touch in conversation. I will keep things strictly business.

I've been through the access forums, and even posted a similiar question there. Alas it has been little to no help. I continue to get varying answers. Some mights say that you can't do anything but turn it off manually. Others say you can do it easily at the click of a button. Then some say stuff with regards to alot of preventative measures....

  • Ali,

Thanks for the help. I am only working at this job for a few more months (Co-op job), and therefor whatever I do must be easy for anyone to do.

I am a little confused with how you worded your response. Are those two different options? one that kicks off the users when I send a signal and another that seamlessly updates the database? That's how I interpreted it.

In that case, tell me more about the...

  • I have been seeing some code that kicks Idle users. That would work I think. However what about those users that simply forget. They aren't nenessarily indle or inactive. I'll still need to be able to close their databases too.

Just as a side note. What do I have to do to send all users a message over access. Is there a DoCmd function for that?...

  • Ali,

I know what you meen by the people thinking something bad is happening when their program all of a sudden just closes. But the problem with simply asking everyone to turn off their databases is that people aren't always on their computers. I'm at a manufacturing plant and the shift supervisors leave their programs running all the time and are rarely in their offices. Making it unlikely for them to close their programs when asked....

  • Programatically Kicking users out of a Database

    Alright Team,

I've got a multi-user database that I need to be able to update whenever I need to. It seems that the simplest way to do so is to simply kick out all of the users, then make my changes while I have exclusive access. There are users on the db 24/7 so it would be a hastle to have to go to each computer and close the db on each computer.

I know there's a way to programatically kick out all users of the database,...

  • I'm using vb 2003. Does this have the same auto update function as 2008?

  • Minion,

Yeah that's a great start. The plant that I work at has 'down days' where there's is little to no data entry for about 6 hours. Do you know of a way that I can 'kick off' all the users from the database remotely. For instance I send out an email to everyone saying that the database will be down from say 10am - 10:15am. Then I click a button (or whatever this function is) and all of the open instances of the database become...

Updating design changes to a Multi-User Database

    Hi all,

I've been pouring through hundreds of forums recently and finally decided that I should get in on the action.

I am trying to update some forms and reports, also some minor back end changes, to a database that is shared by approximately 20 people. I make these updates every 2 weeks or so. How the database is set up is that there is a front end and a back end on the network. All of the users create their own shortcut...
