ahh, I am going to try this: Compare each field the same as a duplicate field, and build the table (Append query) based on only that data which is changed. -
Okay, now how do i compare each and every field of each and every record to find the deltas? :-PLeave a comment:

Incidentally, I have full access to the MySQL, and am fairly decent at MS Access, but just need a good kick in the pants to get moving the right direction.

Yes, I've started by importing the tables and making his forms, but know I will probably trash them. :-P
Even more simple, could I just mark each record that he changes, and have him export those, and then I could just replace the entire MySQL record. I'm up for that. Just make it so if ANYTHING on a record changes, a YES/NO field is triggered.
Wow, My mind wanders- Would it be feasible to import a table twice (tbl_main...Leave a comment:

That does help a lot, but how would I write in the part about them being posted within 72 hours.

I appreciate the help on this. I'm down to only about 2,000 duplicate posts by deleting a few a day! :-P
The problem on this solution is that I use an automated script to make the [TITLE] Field. All records are inserted with the same title. [NEWS RELEASE], as that is how they arrive via email.
I then run a script which renames them based upon the first several words of the release. "Mr John B Smith has graduated from...Leave a comment:

Transactions Tables?
I'm hoping someone has done this before.
I have a database in MySql that many members access via PHP.
However, the new person to update this database does not have the drive or desire to learn anything new.
What I would like to do is build an access database where he makes the changes in a familiar environment (access) and sends me a table with all the changes he's made, but ONLY the changes he's made.

With these particular databases:
Both are on a shared server.
One of them is read-write-mod enabled for all. I will check the DBA's default open and make sure it is shared mode.
The other is read-only for most folks. We can't have anyone changing data in it, and using DB logins is not a good option for it. (We honestly DO have enough passwords)

Sharing not working
I have several databases that need to be available for multiple users.
I know that we aren't supposed to permit several users into the main database, and I normally build frontends, but I have a DBA and NETADMIN standing in the way.
However, when one person is in the databases, it locks them up completely, and clicking the icon only yields an hourglass, no errors and no database. After 10 seconds, the hourglass clears.... -
Sorry.
I get about 500 records per day. These are press releases.
Sometimes, I have a person who has family members in 2 seperate states, so I get 2 news releases. I only want to keep one. I don't care WHICH one. Those would be duplicates.
Sometimes, the news agency has an issue and re-releases the same news 2 days in a row. Those would be duplicates.
Sometimes "Mike Smith"...Leave a comment:

Removing duplicates
Okay, I have a table with the following fields (amongst others):
[ID] (an autonumber)
[Date] (YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS)
[Title] (255 character text)
[xcount] (Numeric)
What I want to do is delete the duplicate posts. They are duplicate ONLY if [title] is the same, and the [Date] is within 3 days of each other. I want to delete the lower numbered posts, or those with the lowest [xcount].
Anyone... -
It's Me again!
Okay,
I have a table with a LONGTEXT field. Some records have 1000+ characters in the suspect field. Since it's a LONGTEXT field, i can't figure out how to set a no-dupe index on it.
I get duplicate records where the first 100 characters are the same. If the first 100 are the same, the entire record is the same. Guaranteed. I have a field that includes the first 50 chars, but sometimes they are the same. (fld 1 "James... -
Thanks. Now for the big question....Whe re do I put that, and what would it look like?

Add some time to a date script
I have the following script on my website. The idea is that the user puts in a date, say January 1st. The script has to figure what day they actually will graduate a course. The students enter Monday, Tues, Wed, or Thurs, and then graduate on the 7th Friday. (regardless of what day they enter)
However, I need to modify it so that if the "enter date" is beyond 25 oct 2008, they graduate on the 9th Friday.

Putting some SQL in a PHP document
I have a few SQL tasks that I run regularly, and right now I do it the long way (using phpMyAdmin).
I want to put the SQL into a php page that I can tuck in a protected directory and run throughout the day.
Once I know the BEST way to go about it, I can get it from there, but what is truly the BEST way to go about this?

Getting tricky with adding text
I need to add "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE." to all of my records.
I know I can use ConCat, but approximately 75% of my records contain some HTML at the beginning for formatting. I need to add the statement to the Beginning of the text (after </DEV>) or at the beginning of the record, whichever is closer.
So, a record without HMTL will be:
"FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

Okay, I see.
Do you have an example? Not asking anyone to write it for me, but I need a little more... What command do I use to remove the unwanted text.
Thanks,

remove rows that do not contain
I want to remove all rows that do not contain the word "FRENCHFRY" in them.
I have tried a few things, with varied results, but nothing consistent.
