Thank you too - that is what I was using but it would not work on the specific formatting applied to a few of my tables (the first time I had a corrupt bak file - woe is me! I did get it resolved after a bit of head banging!... -
Thank you for mucho for responding - it is much appreciated. What happened was that some of the tables were in am "incompatib le format". I did end up getting it ported to Excel 2007 which in turn worked like a charm porting it into all other data formats as well. Yea! A process that works! :)...Leave a comment:

Have you tried starting the system in safe mode? You hit the F8 key when you first turn on the system (keep hitting it every couple of seconds if you are not sure when to tap). If you can get the system to start up in safe mode you are more likely to have a virus/trojan/adware problem OR an incompatible driver/applicatio on the system.
If you can't even get to a screen where it looks like something is windows is starting (including...Leave a comment:

Are you sure you don't have two computers with the same name? I had some issues with Vista Biz too but after applying the updates everything was working fine. I DID have a problem exactly like what you desribed with Vista but is was on XP. My quick fix was to hard code a non DHCP included IP , subnet & DNS on the client. When I had time to work on it I found that the router had issues (although I also think that the satelite provider itself...Leave a comment:

I just had to deal with this problem a couple of weeks ago so here is the first thing to check...
1) Is the MODEM also a router? If it is I would turn off the routing funtion in the modem. Set it up to JUST be the modem (by the way this is acommon problem)
2) Are the routers the same? Maybe one is wireless and one is hard wired? You can flip flop the routers just to try this both ways since there can be compatibility...Leave a comment:

PS; If you have removed the partition and reformatted & installed a legal copy i would assume that your adware is gone? You do have administrator rights too, correct?Leave a comment:

go to the control panel ( i am assuming you have xp) and right click on your wireless or local network connection to select your network connction's properties, on the general tab click install protocols, and add the ipx/spx netbios compatible protocol. save and close. Also in the advanced menu under the network ID submenu (still in net connections but not in the ) if you want happy internal network, assign the systems you want a peer to peer network...Leave a comment:

Hey there purple. Thank you for the response. I was soo tired while I was working on it I never double checked the quality of my file - it was corrupted! After beating my head for about 6 hours I finally decided to create and restore a sample bak and it worked. I re-downloaded my big ugly file and that time it worked too. (Whew) Now I have the new problem of converting the data... a never ending battle! Thanks again for taking the time out...Leave a comment:

Best way to capture/export about 45 fields - 3000 records
I am new to SQL server 2005 and trying to help a charity org move selected kids data out of a POS SQL POS database.
There are maybe 65 tables (only 5 - 7 tables will apply that will contain the 45 fields that I need). About 3000 records need to filtered to create a new database.
Ideally, with the small amout of data I actually need, we thought it would be best to just pump t into Excel so that I can pass the data to... -
Restoring SQL 8 .bak file to SQL 9 won't work
I am trying to restore an SQL .bak file to an SQL 2005 (9) database. I know to change the paths and overwrite the db I am restoring too, however it does not appear to have backwards compatibility to restore the files. Also the files in the bak have extensions .dat and .log - no mdf or ldf files.
This is a time sensitive project for a charity organization that I do volunteer work for so if anybody might know of a tool that can convert...
