  • Hi ADezii

I have now tried your database and it works fine for me. However, as part of my learning process I have tried to replicate it by building it from scratch, and have made some progress. I can get the form with its subform to work, ie I can enter a new book title then enter one or more authors, but only by entering first and last names each time. I cannot work out how to get the Lookup format at this point.

Thanks to you all for your help. The problem was finally solved by switching to Overlapping Windows instead of the default Tab Windows in Access 2007. Also, Stewart, I had maximised the Design view window, and when I changed that it all fell into place nicely.

    Thanks again.

The Forum is really helpful, especially for a beginner like me.

    Thanks Stewart

However this doesn't make any difference.

In my form properties I tried to change the Moveable property to Yes but it kept reverting back to No!

Why is it so?? And is that likely to be a factor in my form size problem?

    Form fills the whole screen

    Hi all

I am using Access 200. I have a form with a specified width eg 8cm and it looks OK in Design view, but when I go to Form view it fills the whole screen. What settings do I need to change so that it remains the specified size when in form view?

    Thanks in advance

    Robert

  • Thanks again, ADezii

I haven't explored it in detail yet but it looks good.

    Cheers

  • Thanks, ADezii

This is very helpful for me as a learning exercise. I am presently trying to work out why what I was trying to do, which looked very similar to your solution, doesn't work. I presume that with the PC-Software template it is necessary to populate the Software table before trying to use the PC form, ie the Software table is then used as a Lookup table. What I was wanting was to be able to enter my Authors onto the subform...

  • Data Entry Form with a Many-to-Many Relationship

    Hi all

I am using Access 2007 to start a small home library application, and so far it has two tables.
    1. Books, with fields Book_ID (Primary Key) and Title, and
    2. Authors, with fields Author_ID (Primary Key), First_Name and Last_Name.

Both tables will be expanded later, after I have solved my current problem

Because one book can have multiple authors, and because one author can have...

    MS Office Voice Recognition

    Hi all

Not exactly an Access question, but perhaps someone can help.

Does MS Office Professional come with voice recognition built in as part of the package, or do I still need something like Dragon Naturally Speaking?

    Thanks in advance

  • I agree, but I was just using this as an example - I actually have several fields which I want to repeat.

The problem has now been solved.

    Thanks

  • Thanks, and OOPS!!!

My version of Access (perhaps all of them) has a security warning saying that "Certain content in the database has been disabled." When I clicked the Options to "Enable this content" everything worked fine.

Sorry that my ignorance caused you to spend time unnecessarily on this.

    Thanks (and sorry) again

  • Thanks, but I couldn't get it to work.

I tried with a numeric field and also a text field, without success.

My numeric field is called Age and I entered the code as you suggested. It looks like this:

    Code:
    Private Sub Age_AfterUpdate()
        With Me.Age
            .DefaultValue = .Value
        End With
    End Sub
I presume the "Me" is a generic reference...

Yes, thanks. Under the Microsoft Office button, then "Manage" brings up "Compact and Repair".

    Thans again

  • Repeating values for a field in several records

I am using Access 2007, and I have a database in which one field is likely to have the same value for several records (eg the Age field in a table of students). How can I set this field on a form so that when a new record is created, the Age field defaults to the value used in that field on the previous record (so that I don't have to keep entering the same data)?

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks, but this seems to apply to Access 2003, and it's different in 2007. There doesn't appear to be a Compact feature any more.

    Restarting Autonumber Fields

I am using Access 2007 and have developed a small database application with three main tables. During the development stage I trialled the forms, relationships, reports, etc using dummy data. It now works to my satisfaction, so I tried to clear out all the dummy data so that I could start again with the real data for the application. I deleted all records from the tables, but when I tried to enter new data the fields which are of type Autonumber...

No. If I create a form without the wizard I can change it OK. But if I use the wizard the controls seem to be looked together and I cannot change them individually. Is this a known limitation of the wizard, or is there something I am doing wrong?

It is very frustrating to use the wizard to create the forms (making life very easy) and then having difficulty editing the form (making life very difficult!)

    Any further...

Why does Parameter dialog box appear?

I am using Access 2007. I have created a table named Birds with one of the fields called In Captivity. This is a Yes/No field. I have also created a report on which I want to print the words "Yes" or "No" dependiong on the value of the In Captivity field. I tried to do this by adding a text box containing the following expression:

=IIf([Birds]![In Captivity] = XXX, "Yes", "No")

    Thanks.

The controls are not grouped (apparently) - the one I select is the only one shown as selected, but when I make the change all the controls change. This happens whether I resize using the handles or by changing the properties. I don't seem to be able to ungroup the controls.
