i figured it out.. you just have to "rejoin" the workgroup using the workgroup administrator under tools->security-> workgroup administrator.
this has to be don everytime you copy or move the database to a new computer

secure replication for remote locations
Ok so I got a db that I want to replicate and distribute to remote disconnected locations and then have the updated replicants returned to me which I will then synchronize with the master design db.
But the additional task has been added that no one should be able to export/import the db objects from or out of the replicates. The only way so far that I have been able to do that is by using user level security via the user-level-security-wizard,... -
Okay so the wildcard issue is resolved I should have been using the % wildcard instead of the * character. Though if I copy and paste the actual sql statement created in VB into a query in Access it doesn't work.
Yo many thanks to all that replied. Ya I don't know the difference between ADO vs. DAO. Except that ADO comes first in an ascending alpha sort ; -)

okay this is all of it I have added some coments here and there that will hopefuly make it clear. The basic issue is that excel users have been putting two records in one field and so they need to be split up. luckily they are seperated with the semi colon.

Intial EOF value is true when using valid(?) SQL to create recordset
Hey everyone many thanks for help with my last post.
This one I hope is an easy one for folks here
I am opened a record set and at the begining of the do loop to begin iterating through the set the EOF value is already "true" so all my code is skipped. I check the local window and tested the sql statement in access by creating a blank query and pasting the sql into the query and running it. It works fine

so then the code could look like this
strSQL = "SELECT * FROM tblNames WHERE Last_Name = chr$(34) & strName & chr$(34);"Leave a comment:

When I run the current script and one record has a field that has a single quote in it . I get an error. I am assuming the VB is expecting and matching single qoute. My question basically, I guess, is how do encapsulate the offending character OR what kind of substitution can I do for the offending character that will prevent the error.
The error occurs when I am doing an insert and the offending value looks something like this...Leave a comment:

Escaping punctuations and quotes
Hi I am new to VB. I have an access database that has data that uses the single quote like in (don't) or (g'night).
I have create a procedure that will do a search and replace, Which I thought should be simply search for (') and replace it with (& "'" &), but that just leads to a billion (& "'" &) of these being inserted. Okay maybe it's not that much but it is a lot.
Isn't there... -
sorry nevermind I guess I should just try it. Thanks again for the help...Leave a comment:

Hi thanks for the quick reply :-) One question would the Docmd.runSql give me the same results? given that I make the same changes to the sql statement you mentioned above?
thanks a bunch...Leave a comment:

Can not pass variable value to insert into statement
Hi new to the forum and visual basic.
I am attempting to fix a migration of excel to access. The excel sheets where simple copied as is into access. for example one table lists the academic history from elementary to phd and on to post doctoral work alll on the same row. I want to break that up to have each level of education as a seperate record and then relate that back to the person.
i can pull the data into...
