Hey, this makes my day! Glad it was helpful. -
I'm not sure if my question was inane, difficult, or just plain boring, but no one's picked it up. In the meantime I've discovered the answer which I will now post on the off-chance that someone will read it someday. As a side note, all the user/password functions mentioned below are found on the Tools >> Security menu in Access 2003.
In short, no. Setting the Admin password is the gateway to turning user-level security "on"...Leave a comment:

Can user password be set before admin password?
I am just beginning to implement user-level security in Access 2003. I created a user account and it is assigned to the users group. I would like to assign a password for this account (or for the users group), but am not given the option to do so. (I am trying under Tools > Security > User and Group Accounts > Change Logon Password.) Only the admin userid is available. Is it because there is currently no password assigned for admin... -
Okay, that sounds like a good solution - and faster to implement. I can work on getting the necessary permissions, but setting up security on the intermediate db will be a good start. Thanks...Leave a comment:

Thanks for the reply, FishVal,
I did follow your advice and get the query to run, which was more than I knew how to do before. My concern with this is the same as with running the query from MATLAB, however. The password to the protected database is exposed in the un-protected database to anyone who looks at the SQL-view, so it's not an acceptable security situation. When I link to the table, on the other hand, it seems that the...Leave a comment:

Linking to certain fields of a table
Greetings,
This seems like it should be a simple problem, but I'm new to Access and my digging hasn't yielded a solution. I would like to create a table in a non-protected database that contains only certain (non-sensitive) fields selected from a table in a password-protected database. I need the fields in the new table to update automatically when changes are made to the original table. I need the unsecured table so that I can...
