replied to Find matching records with partial match
I finally just created a form with a subform with a relationship on date of birth field. I now see the records from Enrolled (which has the fewest entries) one at a time in the top, and all records in my Recruitment table that have a matching birthdate in the subform. I manually compare, and simply click the Yes checkbox when they match. I've always known with my limited data that I would have to manually compare them, I was just trying to find the...

I'm not trying to automate the whole thing, just make it easier to compare. The only thing I care about matching exactly is the date of birth. I can look at the data and make a manual determination if they are a match or not, and then check a yes/no field in my Recruits database when I do find a match. I just need a reasonably easy way to compare birthdates (and corresponding names) in one database with the same info in the other. For example, if...

Find matching records with partial match

I have two tables. One called Recruits that contains data from a career fair, with first and last names, date of birth, high school and some other info. I have a second table called Enrolled of students that have enrolled, with similar data, but not all fields are identical. I don't have a specific field that I can link on that uniquely identifies records, such as SSN, etc. I want to be able to compare and see how many of the prospective students...

replied to Calculate age in years and months in Query
I tried this in pieces to try to understand better. My first record should be 3 years 8 months. When I use only the first line, I get 44 for my first answer, which would be the correct number of months. Then when I insert the & and then paste the second line, I get 448. Not sure what that could be. I tried leaving out the second statement except for the mod 12, but that gave me an error. I tried the second line alone, and I got an 8, which would...

I'm sorry, but I have absolutely no idea what you mean. I was hoping I could get a "change this to that" answer, or copy and use this. Access is a very small part of what I do, so I have very limited opportunity to learn much, and everything I do learn I have to find an example somewhere that I can alter, and when you really have no VBA experience, altering something is often harder than someone might expect. Even as plain as the nose on...

Apparently even when done accurately (which mine is not--I'm only guessing how to modify my current formula) it appears that will give me numbers and tenths rather than years and months. And with my best guess about how to modify the formula, I'm either getting 3.0, which is the number of years but doesn't include any months, 44.0 which is apparently the number of months only, and won't really work or it seems like I got 3.7, but now for the life...

Calculate age in years and months in Query

First let me say two things--I have been searching and trying different examples for two days and have not been able to make anything I find work (I'm sure due to my lack of knowledge) and second, if anyone that is kind enough to try to help me assumes I won't need every single step included to make it work, they are probably wrong. I want to put a field in a query that will calculate age in years and months to the current date so that I can use...

  • My apologies in advance for this being so lengthy, but when I tried to be brief, apparently the information was not sufficient to explain why I wanted to be able to move a record from one table to another.

Each year we have a fundraiser and we collect items from local businesses to place in a silent auction. We have many businesses that donate something year after year. Sometimes they donate the same thing (like a gift certificate)...

  • Thanks for your reply. I think it because after I spent several minutes typing the reply, it never showed up in the thread, and no one ever repsonded. I'm not sure what's going on. When I click reply, it takes me to a page that says to sign up, or login in if you are already a member. When I login at the current member part, it then says "we show you are already a member" and then it never takes me to where I can reply. So then I start...

  • Please see my post. I am having trouble figuring out if I need to reply by clicking the reply after the person's comment, or to click post reply. It seems like either my post is not saved, or the person is never notified of my most recent post. Please excuse my difficulties in posting correctly....

  • This database is for a charity and is used for about 3 months of each year. We have two tables, one is called donor possibilities, and the other is auction items. At the beginning of each year we make a backup copy of the table and call it by the year (as we infrequently need to look back at previous years donations, but we do sometimes), and then move the records from auction items table, leaving it empty, and append them to the donor possibilities...

Copy record to a different table in Access 2007

I would like to be able to copy the current record to a different table. I am tracking donations and I create a new table of donations each year--some of the records will be the same or slightly different. I used to do this with a macro in Access 2003, but it doesn't work in Access 2007 the way it was, and I can't find other commands that will work. I would appreciate any help.

  • I think I missed the correct way to respond before. Please see my response above.

  • Reason to copy

The record won't always stay identical. I'm tracking donations for a silent auction, and I create a new table each year. The item they donate can different, and sometimes the name of the contact, the address or phone can change, and not everyone donates again. I copy the record from the previous year and update fields as necessary, but by having the previous years we can always look back to see what they have donated...

  • Copy (or Append) a record to a different table in Access 2007

I've been searching archives, but I can't find anything I can make work, and this is probably really simple--unfortunatley just not for me. I want to have a button on a form that when clicked will copy (or append) the current record (from the table "Auction Items 2009") to a different table ("Auction Items"). I can make the button, but I can't seem to figure out what code to use. A macro would be fine, but while it says macros...

  • That so works!!! Thank you! How do you attach hugs and kisses???

But just to help, as I'm sure someday I'll need something else, what should I have said in the first place to have avoided so much confusion?

  • I used your code, and added at the end what I thought I needed to to get it to work and I have:
    Code:
=Val(Sum(Nz(IIf(IsError([Reports]![Final Bid Sheets]![Final bid Sheet Auction Items subreport]![Auction Total]),0,[Reports]![Final Bid Sheets]![Final bid Sheet Auction Items subreport]![Auction Total]))))
    and every total is zero.

  • I was working on my response before I saw your clarification. When you stated "Name is control name. Control source is the property just below the name. The control source is what you should be using in the summations" I took that to mean that I should be using the line below the name which says Control Source in place of the names that I had been using in my calculations, so I substituted what was in Control Source for the name--hence...

  • So I replaced
[Auction Total] with [=sum([Winning Bid Amount])]
    [Party1 Total] with [=sum(Amount)]
    [Party2 Total] with [=sum(Amount)]
in my code and I get "The expression you entered contains invalid syntax."

I also tried leaving out the = sign, but got the same error. My code is now:
    Code:

=Val(Sum(Nz(IIf(IsError([Reports]![Final Bid Sheets]![Final bid Sheet Auction Items subreport]![=sum([Winning
    ...
