Jpeg.XML... suddenly appearing an unable to open xml extension files

I have some pictures from my go pro camera stored on a external hard drive. I placed them there after downloading my go pro pictures on to a computer desk top.. viewing them and then saved them in the hard drive. They were saved as a pure jpeg picture or a mp4 video. So then I plugged my hard drive in to a new mac computer I bought recently and these pictures suddenly had an xml extension added to them. I am unable to save or open any of the pictures or videos. I am also unable to find any coverer capable of changing the xml files to a simple jpeg again. Any ideas ? and thank you in advance.

When you open such a file in Notepad, do you see something that looks like XML? (What readable text do you see?)

If it start with '<?xml....' you will know it's xml, please attach 1 file to this thread

That is also my question to you if you did some renaming because that might affect the files in case.
