Fo:block....Please help

Iam new to this site.
I have a problem.
I want to know whether the fo:block in velocity template language has any other uses other than equivalent of <p> tag in html.

Please help.

Personally, I think it's more like a <div> tag, allowing you to apply different set of styles and such to it.
