search and sort xml from browser

Hi,

I have an xml database and i have made an xslt stylesheet to format the information to be displayed from a web browser, however i wish to be able to search and sort the data. I was able to do it once but cannot remember how i did it. something like http://www..../database.xml?sort...

or do i need to set this up with a php script?

any help appreciated :)
