    PDF + XML database?

    Hi.

I run my own company since a few months, last weekend I started to create all my invoices etc into PDF-format. Now I want to connect a fairly simple database (made in XML) to this invoices, so I am able to import client information with only 1 mouseclick.

Now I have two problems: problem 1 is that I am not an experienced XML user.
I looked on the internet for understandable XML-writer software, and I ended up with downloading a trial of Altova XMLSpy. After some research I was able to make this sample in XML. (see attachment - original file extension: .xsd)
I hope someone can tell me if I'm on the right track.

    And problem 2:
How do I get this XML database cooperating with my PDF form? I created the form with Adobe Designer 7.0. I found out I can make a database connection with an Object-field. But what is the next step after this connection is created? Couldn't find anything usefull in the helpfiles about it.

PS: Sorry if I placed my topic in the wrong forum. :)

I'm not sure if you're going about this the right way. I am not too familiar with the capabilities of PDF. If you plan on linking in XML to a PDF, you will need Adobe's PDF creation software (expensive) and if you have it, then search the manual to see how to do this, if it is in fact possible.

My suggestion is that you should really be doing this in some other environment. QuickBooks or something like that will do just what you want. If you have windows, you could probably rig something using Microsoft Word, Excel and Macros or you could just use Mail Merge (the obvious choice). If you need the invoices to be in PDF ultimately, you could convert them once you have made them in Word or whatever by using PDF995.

Hopefully this was helpful. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask me at Shift Web Design's Developer Forum.
