    bsod/xp/can not get by safe mode

    BSOD error screen STOP: 0x0000007B. I believe it is a virus b/c Webroot Antivirus, just before this, detected a virus and asked if it can shut down now. I wanted to finish what I was doing intending to immediately shut down. Never had the chance. I can not boot in any of the safe modes. I have the original OS install disc. This is an old laptop (Dell Vostros) and at this point I'm mostly concerned about data recovery. If I can roll it back to the prev working point, that would be ideal. I am a novice, but follow directions well. Can anyone help me? I have pictures that can't be replaced (recent death of mom) and would really like to restore those. Many thanks in advance. Lynn

    i would get another harddrive such as usb hard drive then boot off a linux live and copy them to the usb hard drive then reinstall os.

    there are several linux live cd on the internet.
