system hanged up while opening a picture folder

Hi today i copied my picture folder from my portable hard drive to my laptop,now when i tried to open it ,my system get hanged up and does not respond,in this folder i have many picture folder.
Please help me how can i open it
I tried these steps,but i did not get any success

1 check disk utility
2 cd My Doc* then press ENTER
del thumbs.db /s then press ENTER

First open your task manager and then open the folder, check the resource usage in task manager. And try to locate the program locking up the system( yo may have copied malware across with the pics.
The other way you may try is to access the folder via cmd and to use the copy command to move you file out of the folder one by one. and then see f the pics will open

Hi thanks for your suggestion & i already recovered my all pics by copying the My pictures folder & during the copy i opened it & then copy all folder one by one.But i am still not understand why my system was hanging when i was copying whole folder,& what was the problem in that folder.
