What do you think of the New WIndows 8 UI?

Here's a demo of the Windows 8 user interface.

What do you think of the interface and it's use of web technologies? How would you compare it to Chrome.

It's great both companies Google and Microsoft pushing web technologies as the platform for apps in the future.

The graphical user interface is just a passing trend, as is this touch-screen stuff. Honestly, at the end of the day, we'll all be sat in front of terminals and command lines.

I find it a little scary.
I've been working a lot with WPF and after looking into Windows8...and hearing about the push for HTML5....I'm concerned about the lifespan of my not-yet-finished product.

It will be ok It is just a trend even ubuntu 11 has this option now (It sucks prefer the old fashion gnome), but it is as Markus said the real power is in the command prompt and power shell, leave the GUI to the miner pc users(But they are going to suffer with it).every time a new windows gets releaset I have to retrain users on using it. but thats live for you.
Only one note I want to make for the linux duds and dudets PLEASE LEAVE UBUNTU GNOME AL OWN.

Don't worry. I doubt they'll be removing support for that anytime soon. I'm guessing all this web-technology talk is just that... talk. They're probably just acting all web-developer friendly right now to try and stop the rapid market share fall of that poor excuse for a browser they keep forcing on us.

Log out. Select "Ubuntu Classic" from the drop down at the bottom. Log back in. - That said, it's freaking Linux. If you don't like the default UI, just install another one. There are a bunch of them just sitting in the repos waiting for you to type in that one line of sudo apt-get goodness.

I like the Unity look though. I've been waiting years for them to replace that old Win2K/MacOS meld they had going as the default. Especially after they created the black theme... that thing was horrid.

Thanks for the reply, And you are correct Linux can be changed at will, thanks for the post on disableing the MONO on Ubuntu 11, But with that said ( I gave the MONO a chance and used It for a while and must says It is very user friendly and easy to use, To all the Ubuntu Developers WELL DONE , It will devenetly help new users to easely interact with the Linux GUI.
            thanks for the reply Atli

Your words were comforting for some time until I came across a link about Windows8 development that I posted about here.

I am officially terrified of this new platform.
