Why Windows Vista Home won't open USB drive without formatting it first?

    Hi!
I just bought a new laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium on it but it will not open files on any of my USB. The USB is recongized and according to the Device Manager the device works properly and the software needed to open it is correct/up to date. However when I click on the USB it gives me the option to format it. I tried to do that but I received an error message the formatting could not be completed... the usb works fine on other computers (xp).

Also I when I plugged in my digital camera, it worked absolutely fine...

    Any advice?

    Thanx

Open disk management - Right click "My computer" > choose "Manage" > Disk Management

In disk management - right click the drive > delete the partition/drive.
Then right click the drive again > choose "New partition" and follow the wizard.
