    PC hangs up it's boots!!

While browsing the internet, my notebook hangs up. Nothing works, not even the keyboard. Only thing works is "charging" and sometimes songs!!

The hard-disk light too goes off, and the screen fixes up. Until (I sing "U can't See Me, My Time is Now") I switch off my PC forcibly.

Avast antiV is installed, and totally no infections, whatsoever, detected.

    Please issue some guidance.

    Thank You

it occurs almost once or twice a day...i use a notebook..and everythings just stops as it is, it then requires a complete shutdown, and after restart everything is intact, except the downloads which are broken, and some can even be not resumed.

Which windows version are you using? Any service pack installed?

Does this happen only when you do online? How often do you update your antivirus database? Please check the processor usage from the windows task manager.

Windows XP, SP 2. Acer Aspire 5738. I use Avast! free antiV, and the virus database is updated frequently. PC hangs only when its online.

          Thank You..

Try going online while windows firewall & Avast are set disable. This could be due Avast.
