Netsh cannot connect to unsecured network

    Hi all,
I have a question about the netsh command. I looked everywhere but nobody seems to have my problem.
For the moment if i do "netsh wlan show profiles" i see my current network under the section user profiles. It's there because i connected through the UI.
But I can, if not already connected, also connect to it through "netsh wlan connect name=MyNetwork"
Now i have a second wireless network at home, not secured. but if i want to connect by "netsh wlan connect name=MyNetwork2 " then it returns an error:
There is no profile "MyNetwork2 " assigned to the specified interface . It's true, there is no profile. But this is a unsecured network and through the UI, I just can connect to it.
What am I doing wrong? How can i connect through command to that network?
    Thanks in advance!!

My guess is that the error is telling you what's wrong: the default profile is the secured wireless access point you are able to connect to, and that's what the interface is expecting, so when you attempt to connect to the unsecured without loading the unsecured profile (or creating) then the configs do not match.

What does the netsh wlan show profiles command return after you've connected to the unsecured vlan through the UI?

And what configuration tool are you using? Windows? Another built-in? Does it allow you to create/save/modify wireless profiles?

how do i create the unsecured profile then? all the creates example's i found on the net were with the use of an .xml file. but i don't know how to create or retrieve that xml file for the unsecured wireless.
The show profiles just returns the secured profile only after i connect to the unsecured one.
i'm just using windows vista with full administrator rights and the possibility to create/add/modify profiles.
      Already thanks for your help!

Ah, you're using Vista. I'm not entirely sure then, I haven't had the ... opportunity to work heavily with Vista yet.

If this thread doesn't get a reply in a few days, I will move it over to the Windows Forum.
