    Win7 + WordPerfect Office X3 (retail Home Edition) + Brother MFC-3360C

What work for me with the above items was the correct sequence of installation. Note that this is a very clean set-up as I purchased a new hd just for Windows 7.

First of course was a clean install of Win7 32bit rc. After which I installed drivers and essential softwares such as anti-virus, Firefox 3.1, Comodo Firewall, etc... Then the Brother driver and printer. That seems to be my first major error with Win7.

For would be users of WP Office X3, install just the main suite and Task Master. No re-booting was required. Run Corel Update Advisor WPOX3. In my case I was advised to install service pack 2 of WPOX3. Make sure you have the full download of 84.1Mb. Re boot after WPOX3-SP2. Then proceed with latest driver installation of Brother MFC-3360C.

Thanks Cyberdyne, I got the idea from your previous posts here. Hope my post will also be helpful to others.

Now, if someone can help me with Firefox resolution on 21"-22" CRT monitor....

Finally recd new computer yesterday with Windows 7. First thing I did was to install WordPerfect program and transfer my WordPerfect files from old XP to new W-7 computer. I can open WordPerfect, but when I try to access my text files/documents, WordPerfect shuts down, grays out, will not allow exit. I have to Control-Alt Delete. Same thing if I type a test line and try to save it. I see from this thread this is a known problem and will be a BIG problem for me. I'll be back to check for any answers. Thanks.. Dixiebelle:

        This happened to me too.

        Go to:

        Tools
        Settings
        Files

Make sure the box that says "Use enhanced file dialogs" is NOT checked.

This fixed the problem for me.

First of all my case was with the 32-bit Win 7 RC1 version. I don't know if the 64-bit or retail versions will be any different.

          Uninstall WPX3.......

Go to the Corel website and look for topics having to do with Win 7.

In my case I did this.

For would be users of WP Office X3, install just the main suite and Task Master. No re-booting was required. Run Corel Update Advisor WPOX3. Hope it helps you

My problem was more on how to make WPX3 and my Brother all-in-1 printer all function properly under Win 7 32-bit RC1.

If the printer driver was installed before WPX3 - something didn't work. Can't remember if it was the printer or WPX3.

With the proper sequence of installation both software and printer worked properly.

            Hope this helps

Kings4navy: Gee, thanks! It worked like a charm! I had heard today that I could buy the latest version of WPerfect ($55 saved) and that should fix the problem. I am so happy about this. But I suppose the real test will come after I install my printer on the new PC. I'll be back here if the printer install causes WP to crash again. Thanks again. :)

                  Thanks...Here is what I did

I had the same problem with X3 I followed these steps, after doing System Restore to installation date: (Pretty much the same thing that Mysteryozo suggested with a couple of extra tweaks. Thanks Mystery for your help!!!)

                  1. Uninstall WPX3
                  2. Uninstall ALL HP printer drivers
                  3. Delete all unwanted programs from the hard drive
                  4. Disconnect computer from ALL printers and internet (to avoid automatic driver installation)
                  5. Restart computer
                  6. Re-install WPX3
                  7. Use Corel Update advisor to install SP2
                  8. Re-install HP printer drivers ONE AT A TIME. Start with printers HARD wired to your computer. Test that printer with WordPad or Note Pad to see if it is working. THEN open WPX3 and see if it works, THEN try to print. NEXT try WiFi printers or Blue Tooth printers, then try connecting network printers LAST.

In my case I still CANNOT use the network or WiFi printers with X3. If I install them, they will work with other programs but NOT WPX3, they will cause X3 to crash every time on my machine. Luckily the main network printer I need to use is close enough to my desk that I could use a USB hub and splice it with a cable to my desk.

Corel's response to me (when they got around to it) was they do NOT provide support for X3 for Win7, you must buy X4.

P.S. I had a go around with Corel over this and posted a link to this thread on their knowledge base:

Windows 7 upgrade-in-place with WP X3 installed on XP .... after receiving WP X3 starting errors ........ I deleted (not uninstalled) all HP printers from Windows 7 and then added them back ...... WP X3 now seems to run without errors ....
