Are you sure you don't have two copies of it opened? Is this file saved in a place where another person could access it over your network?

        At first most Important

There is option when you share the workbook that you are going to allow to share with read and write permission to other users if you will not check it then the workbook will be shared but only for read not for write .So Please check it.And I am sure that this is the only case which usually happens.

        Secondly,
When you are working on an Excel workbook(file) Excel will create a temporary
        copy of that file.
Generally when you close the file the temporary is deleted.
        Sometimes it is not.
Then you will get the "this file is locked for editing by username".

Most times a re-boot will clear it up but sometimes you must clear your Temp
        folder and/or the folder

        C:\Documents and Settings\userna me\Application Data\Microsoft\ Excel
