In Windows XP, there is something called ICS (internet connection sharing), when enabled it works as sort of a DHCP server. Besides sharing the internet connection with PCs connected in a LAN, ICS also provides IP address to all the PCs automatically. At the PCs, you need to set "Obtain IP automatically" properties.
To run ICS, goto control Panel -> Network Setup Wizard
Make sure if he had actually meant to say how to setup dhcp settings in win XP
to use with the dhcp- server installed on windows server not on windows XP.
