Bought a used VAIO no system software of any kind came with it. Created a new user profile with admin and deleted old users profile. Used the system for a few weeks updated XPpro SP2 to SP3 had some software conflicts so I removed the SP3 update. Doing this I noticed that my new user name had been placed under the old users ID and that users data was still on the drive as well as a great deal of my own. I created another user ID and attempted to remove the other user again. Now in Documents and Settings the old user still has a file and the properties are 0 bytes and not accessible but the data space is still being used by the data and I can use recovery software to get to it but I need to delete it to recover the disc space it's using. Remember I don't have software to return the system to factory defaults which would do the job quickly. I turned off the recovery program to completely remove the other users data so I can't roll the the system back using this. Have never encountered this problem but I'm still working it if I find the answer for my self I will post it.
