    How to recover data

    Hey kids,

I was copying about 8Gb of data from one machine to another over our LAN when the computer crashed and did a disk error check when it restarted. Now the data is on neither computer =(

Tried running one of these freeware data recovery / undelete programs but it didnt bring up the files.

Anyone know of a way of scanning the hard disk for data that hasnt necessarily been deleted, but then again, isnt there??

    Cheers!

u'll have to keep trying those data recovery tools, try this GetData Product.

you have to buy it but you can test it out for free to see if it can even find those files, if it can then u'll need to buy it to save them. but i'm sure there are other software out there that are free or at least cheaper.

also, check the temp directory incase they were moved there.

Thanks for the info. This was a while ago. I tried all the undelete programs I could but in the end found the data had been copied to the windows temp directory. I'd say windows is smarter than I thought by transferring the data across the network before deleting it, but why not just do that from the original location?

hey ho its all sorted anyway.

        Thanks
