what MS application requires the admin right to install and to run?

I am new in this forum, please forgive me if this question has been discussed before.

I am an UNIX admin, our PC admin just quit so boss put me in charge of "granting the admin rights to the PC users". I was told that our policy is just say "NO", if the developers really need it, they will be back to fight for it. Only then we can consider the case. However, I was the programmer once and knew the pain of not having "admin rights" to install whatever I wanted. Unfortunately, this is the very same thing that company want to have a control on, so we don't bring in unlicensed software, malware, etc.

Can members of this forum provide your own experience of "what MS application requires the admin right to install and to run?", so I'll just give these developers a break (grant them the admin right on their first try ;-)

Our PCs all came with "gold build" images, so MS office were pre-installed. The Admin rights are usually requested by developers. Some are necessary, some requests are strange (such as "need to sync up with my PDA").

I'd like to know if .NET? eclipse? weblogic? wesphere? or any other developer's tools have to have admin rights to install/run?

Eclipse is quite easy - you don't have to install it and I don't think you'll need admin rights at any point, as long as you don't try to play around with anything, that the admin owns.

Most others will probably need admin rights for installation, but running them in a limited account should be no problem.

.NET, weblogic, and wesphere create services so admin rights are required for the install but afterwards any account can use them, but a admin is required for the restart of the service.
