Too many Svchost.exe tasks

Hi all

The svchost.exe always killing my cpu. It uses lots of memory. And also some times explorer.exe kills lots of memory.

What the problem is here?

Lots of svchost.exe process running in my background.

How to resolve this?

I tried changing the keys using regedit but having same problem.

Plz help me to reslove this.

It's normal to have 4, 5, or even 6 svchost.exe tasks running. Exploere will also grow quite large until the memory is needed. If you are running XP, you can expect 200 MB of memory to be used up just by the operating system. This is much more than some older versions of Windows.

Check out your background tasks (and everything else) with Process Explorer.

To see Explorer will give back some memory, just run as many programs as you can, until Explorer gets smaller.

You can reduce svchost, somewhat by turning of unneeded services. This site is a great resource for learning about that.

svchost is what Microsoft uses to run a wide variety of service on Windows.
Use the link to Process Explorer and that program will tell you exactly what each one is doing. One in particular coordinates a huge list of services.
