Partitioning is usually done before the OS is installed. I've heard that Partition Magic works on a running system, but I don't think that it's free.

nedwolf has a couple of free partition manager apps listed on his site.

Alternatively, if you have unpartitioned (raw) disk space, you can use the Disk Management tool (In Control Panel > Administrative Tools) to create new partitions. Otherwise, the information bartonc provided has some useful resources.

usually when u don't partition your drive, the setup does it for u, it just partitions the whole drive, thats hwo my drives came.

all u do it delete that partition make one of whatever size u like, install windows xp, the install process will handle everything (formatting, etc.)

then once the OS is installed and your at your desktop, right click my computer click mange, go into Disk Management and wait for it to load. in here u will see your harddrive, cd/dvd.

click Disk(0) usually the hardrive, u'll see the C: drive and then other stuff that u can't use. Right click it and make a new partition (u can make more than one depending on how much is left and how big u want them).

          good luck.

That's why you're the expert, and I'm just the forum leader. I went into disk management before I posted, but couldn't find the Add Partition control.

I feel a little foolish, but that's probably a good thing.
