I did some research on a very similar problem in IIS forum:
IIS 6 - Slow Response Time
May be of use if hotfix is not appropriate solution. Of course, it could be that the other poster has problem described in hotfix so I will keep that in mind :).Comment

OP - just a thought if you are concerned about the client, make sure you do a full backup before applying the fix, that way you can always go back. Are you using a genuine version of Windows server 2003?
If so, which version? Standard? Web? Terminal? Enterprise? Small Business?

Am using Windows 2003 R2 Server Std. Edition with Service pack 2... and also am using IIS 6.0.. i faced w3wp.exe problem in my server, it occupies more memory space & cpu..
can any one help me in this issue... please make it fast.. me getting screwed in my department...Comment

if there is enough OF the answer.... then yeah closing it would be okay... however.. Some questions may have more then one answer... you know? Some people might look at it in other ways??
