Has the brightness got turned down? <FN> <UpArrow> to increase it.

Or I guess since the C800 is a little aged (I know I have one) that the LCD could have developed a fault, for instance the backlight may have failed.

Actually, I think all Dell Latitudes have dimmer screens then their little brothers the Inspiron. I own a Dell Lattitude 620 series, & it seems that everyone is complaining about the brightness quality of the model Dell laptop.

Ok, question. WHY do you need the screen to be brighter? Are you working with graphics? Colors? Images? You said that the colors are better when you attach a monitor to the laptop & view the laptop's screen from that? Is the quality better on the monitor?

Right click on your desctop and go to properties > settings > advanced you should find settings to make the display brighter in there. Download the latest video drivers from dell by using your service tag on their support site. If the screen is way too dim, I would recommend replacing it all together as it sounds like an older model.
e-bay has some nice prices on used latitudes.

          Good luck, Cyber.

Guess i had to reply on this one aswell :)

Have a latitude D800 myself. And yes, sounds like your screen is a goner, especially if this recently aroused....

If it comes clean on another moniter that is because that is just how well it looks on that moniter there for your LCD is shot... and I would suggest having a screen place take a look see.
