How do I switch back to IE6 for testing purposes

    Hi there,

I'm developing a website that has a print feature. I was working on developing a CSS that would properly format the web-pages to be more printer friendly and never quite finished the task before I updated windows and ended up installing IE7.

IE7 has corrected the problems I was trying to fix with my CSS and now I can't complete what I was working on because I can't seem to figure out how to change back to IE6.

Does anyone know how to switch back to IE6 without having to uninstall IE7?

    Thanks

I read that if you uninstall IE7 with Add/Remove Programs, IE6 will come back as your brouser, but have not tried this.

You don't need to uninstall IE7 and I don't recommend it. You can get a standalone version of IE6 for testing from several places by just googling for it. One place to get it is 456Berea Street.

I didn't want to uninstall it for numerous reasons. I just couldn't seem to find a standalone version.

          Thank you so much

Apparently the standalone versions are hacks and most likely do not have all the functionality that the real versions have.

The best suggestion I've found so far is to use a Virtual Machine and set up IE6 on that while leaving IE7 alone on the real machine.

I haven't actually tried this. I'm fortunate enough to have 2 computers. I've un-installed IE7 on one machine so that I can use IE6.

The only problem I'm having with this setup is that I have to publish my website in order to be able to test it from the other computer. This is a time consuming process that I wish I didn't have to do.

I am not aware of that at all. I use mine for testing of my pages and nothing else so if it's true I would be the last to know but that's the first I've heard that said.

I also have not heard anything like this. You can install multiple versions of IE. This link actually has an installer that will do the work for you :)

                  I used this solution:

It all works fine, however the virtual machine takes up a rather large chunk of memory.
