Error 1304 On Re-install Of Scanner

Brain Buster Time For Us Idiots! Ms/xp (fully Updated)
My Hard Drive Had To Be Repair; Part Of The Data Was Lost. I Went To Re-install The Hp Scanjet 3500c Software (and Yes, Hp Is Lost As Well), And It Popped Up With : Error 1304: Error Writing To File C:\program Files\hewlett-packard\digital Imaging\bbfe\co mmon\img\hpq Comv.dll Verify That You Have Access To That Directory.
Well, Now Ms And Hp Made The Solutio Sound Easy, Add Remove Program...well, Hp Is Not Listed There! I Go To Dos And Directory, And Sure Enough, There It Is, 0 Bytes, Multiple Sub Files, Showing 0 Bytes, But When I Try To Del, It Says Files Are Not Empty, Rd Does Not Work As Well.
Both Hp And Ms Say I Have To Completely Remove The Hewlett-packard Directory, Sub Directory And Files...yet Neither Had The Data As To How Once I Told Them The Program Does Not Appear In The Add/remove List From Control Panel.
For Some Reason, The File Name Exists With Directories. Sub Directories. Files. Yet Is Not Recognized. And To Compound The Problem, The File Has A . Dir, .. Dir, Digital Imaging Dir And Memories Disc Dir, Of Which I Suspect The ./.. Are Ghosts Of The Named Directories. With 0 Bytes Listed, I Am Beginning To Suspect The Files That Are Not Empty Contain Inf Extensions Which Are Registering But Have 0 Bytes And They Don't Show Up Anywhere In Search, Nor Does Hewlett-packard.

It looks to me like after the hard drive has been restored you made a new username for your computer so now you don't have access to the hp folder because you no longer own it. So what you need to do is navigate to that folder in Safe mode (you can do this by holding F8 before windows starts and then chosing the option to start in Safe mode with networking enabled.

Once you startup I want you to navigate to c:\program files\ or wherever he hp directory resides I want you to click on Tools > Folder Options... > View and check show hidden files and folders and uncheck Hide extensions for known file tpes, also enable simple folder view so you can change your security/ownership rights to the folder. Find out what username is and after right clicking on the hp folder and going to properties transfer ownership of the folder to your username aplly all the settings and give yourself full rights, at this point you should be able to delete the entire folder by selecting it and holding SHIFT press DELTE and YES, now the folder is gone and you should be able to reinstall.

Another good idea is to empty your temp files as sometimes a corrupted install package could be messings things up for you to do this, navigate to c:\documents and settins\youruse rname\local settings\

Empty your temp folder and temp internet files.

Good Luck and let me know if this worked for you.
