I am changing career and need advice on training.

I have no background in programming. For ease of explanation we will say I have more of a Graphic design past. On a programmer friends advice I have begun looking into web based applications with the aim of becoming a front end developer.

Firstly, will my design skills translate in anyway within a role like this? Secondly, where would people recommend I begin as far as formal training. I'm in Australia so if there are any Aussies out there with some advice on institutions and courses I can access in person that would be great.

I am not into web development, just sharing some info.

Firstly, will my design skills translate in anyway within a role like this?
    I do believe so.

Secondly, where would people recommend I begin as far as formal training.
I have heard of many options. There are coding bootcamps, workshops, nanodegree programs, university-level courses from eDx, etc. Some of my friends also enrolled in the Treehouse techdegree.

    I wish you the best.

You did ask for career advice.

      I suggest:

Get a book on C++11 by Stroustrup.

Learn C++11 with CODE::BLOCKS 17.12 and not using the included wxWidgets.
