First you are going to have to find a provider for your web hosting that meets your needs. Unfortunately we don't know what your needs are and we don't endorse any specific vendors. There are a plethora of providers out there, simply search google for "web hosting" and you should find plenty.

As for your developed site, you would simply upload the files to your server, probably with an ftp client such as cuteftp. Once up there, get your stuff working the way you want it.

To put in my 2cent on the hosting, if you are knowledgeable in setting up your own server, then you may want to run your own VPS. I have the 100g space option from Semoweb and its wicked cheap and I haven't had any issues.

What's nice about running your own VPS is you aren't limited to what a hosting provider gives you or restricts you to. You buy your own domain name and set it up and configure all the software you need.

On hosting make sure your service provider provides control panel access and is up to date with PHP, Apache and MySQL versions. Most reputable companies are Ok as they actually piggy back off a main provider. Just stay away from the small fly by nights.
I would recommend FireFTP to do the physical uploading. Simple, Efficient and Easy for fist timers.
Once you have chosen a service provider to do the hosting, remember to ask them for your ftp login details. They will provide you with a username and password that you will then use in Fire FTP.
