Open application from email

Hello,

I have a VB application that tracks in-house requests. I would like to send an email with a link to the application and an entry ID as an argument, then have the application open and read the entry ID. Any suggestions on how to do this?

Is there a way to open a windows application from a link? Or another way to open an application from within an email?

For a desktop .exe client application what you are referring to is not really possible.

This is (one reason) why web applications are so popular because you CAN do what you are describing with those. (Querystrings provide the passable arguements allowing links to define what data will be displayed to a user).

So if you application was written to run in a browser, you could, however again with a .exe you cant.

On a side note though, the same database that is utilized by this vb app you mention, can be published to html pages probably rather simply. Depending on what database system you use there are probably HTML table export options where you can set up routines to export data to pages that you can then send links to. Just a thought.
