2 application with different date format

I have 2 applications developed in vb,

1. work on windows default format
2. works on dd-MM-yyyy

i have now given the user a configuration with help of that they can change date format, but some times that for get and the problem occurs.

if you have some better solution plz let me know.

Actually I am changing the date format using windows api. But this changes windows date format, which some times create problem in some excel sheets.

It is better to format the date before processing to a particular format.
Then it won't matter how the user enters the date in application.
