Problem communicating with serial port

i am doing a project that is based on embedded that made for the blind people they can enter characters a-z and numbers i have done the hardware part of it and it is done by pic and rs232 and i am doing the software side in vb6 i have created a form which has rtf to display documents what will i do to see the characters send from the hardware and also to see the character on an lcd olaced on the board i want the code related to the serial communcation with the ports with vb and also to send and recieve data and display it
