My operatting ststem is WinXP, VB 6.0, SQL Server Professional 2000. when i trying to access data on vb from SQL Server Pro 2000 i get error can't connect to SQL Server. can you tell me answer and send sample program for it.

You may get answers faster if you show what you currently have. You may or may not be close with what you have.

That's great advice. Also, if you are using ODBC, you may need to look in your Data Source Administrator to see if SQL Server is listed there :-)

Set main_catalog= New ADOx.Catalog

What is the specific error that your are getting when you try to connect.
