Detecting Network Printer

Hi, i have a printer that is installed on a network machine on my home network that i use to print, my appication prints loads of info from a list box etc n that all works, but what i want to do is detect if the printer is ready to accept new documents for printing for example if its turned off or there is a paper jam or sum form of error with it that it will not allow printing, if some of them cannot be done not too fussy but just to detect if the network printer is on or off would be a great help if any one can advise on this, thank you very much in advance

This must be something to do with the windows api given that this information is available under printers and faxes.
