    net send command not working.

    Hello,
I made a small interface to communicate with different persons by using net send command. some of our systems are Windows 2000, and windows Xp and windows Xp wirh Service Pack 2. This program is working fine on all work stations except 2 work stations where the operating system was Windows Xp ( SP2). Later i came to know that The windows messenger system in Windows Xp with SP2 has been disabled. Is there any way to resolve this probelm.

    Your help is greately appriciated.

    thank you all
    Raj.

    Hi there,

Make sure Messenger Service is started. Start the Messenger Service and Net Send should just work fine, hope it helps. Good luck & Take care.

Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services

hai, Thank you for your suggestion.
I checked this already, it shows that Status is Started, But startup Type is Empty. I think it should be either manual or automatic. I am unable to change this because i am getting an error like this:
"Unable to open service Messenger for reading on Local Computer. Error 5: access is denied."

Also please note that i don't have system administartor access. I will try to check with system administrator.

If you have any other solution, please let me know.
      Thank you once again.
      Raj

        Hi there,

Another option will be logging in locally as local Administrator, you need to have local admin account password to be able to log-in locally. My suggestion would be getting you administrator to start the Messenger Service is the bet choice, set the startup mode to automatic so that the service is started at boot time, hope it helps. Good luck & Take care.
