Re: Saved .rtf Help File corrupt after reformatting system

same version installed from same cd as before. Something just occurred to
me. hcw.exe was installed to a completely different directory. I don't see
how that should make a difference, but I'm going to install it in the same
directory as before and see if that changes anything.

Well, that wasn't it. Same exact errors as before. There's got to be a link
to some other file/s that are either missing or in the wrong directory.
Reminds me of using MS backup some years ago. if you didn't know to also
save the catalog files and maybe another file along with the backup file,
there was no way you could restore your backup. Wish someone knew whats up
      with this.

Well, don't really get it, but there must be something about win XP service
pack 2 that screwed up how the version of hcw.exe handled the Help.rtf file
          I created in word.
I'm inclined to think that, because on the prior successful compilation of
          the help.rtf file, I hadn't installed Service pack 2.

Anyway, I downloaded Help Workshop 4.03 from Microsoft and ran it on the
same Help.rtf file and here are the results:

          Creating the help file Help.hlp.

          Processing C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\VB98\My VB
          Stuff\Help\Help .rtf

          Resolving keywords...
          Adding bitmaps...
          52 Topics
          99 Jumps
          52 Keywords
          43 Bitmaps

          Created C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\VB98\My VB
          Stuff\Help\Help .hlp, 29,704,220 bytes
          Bitmaps: 29,638,960 bytes
Compile time: 0 minutes, 16 seconds
          0 notes, 0 warnings

And, yes I ran WinHelp on it and it seems to work perfectly !

THANK GOD ! The thought of recreating the 85 MB file from scratch just to
add a couple of topics was just about giving me an ulcer.

Well, thanks for the suggestions anyway.
