VB3 was good for it's day but VB4 and VB5 added a lot to the language.
VB4 is fine for learning but is a slow, bloated, buggy pig that isn't
suitable for any production work. VB5 cleaned things up a lot and
VB5/VB6 are all but interchangeable .
I'd try ebay or a similar source for anybody selling old VB3 or VB4
manuals.

Well, personally I think you are wasting your time with VB4
When I finally was forced into Windows I got VB4 as I needed to code
for 16 bit Windows
- it just made me sick
- VB5 however is rather nice
The VB4 manuals are not much use, there is one that lists all the
commands etc, which is basically a paper copy of the Help system,
- and a second manual with more 'advanced' stuff in it
- I found neither particularly useful
