IIS

[Hello]

My operating system is Windows is windows XP Home.
IIs(Internet Information System) not installed because this window does not support the IIS.
Can I install IIS to work with web applications?
Where I go ?

What kind of work ? VS 2005 and later comes with a built in test server that should be enough to develop...

What do you mean it asks you to go to the internet? As soon as you
press F5 of Ctrl+F5 to run the site it should start the ASP.Net test
server and open up the site in your default browser. Is yours doing
something different?

I think that most would tell you to go purchase XP Pro that comes with IIS.

IMO this is because "work offline" is checked in your IE menu, so IE is not supposed to connect to a site but to only retrieve pages from its cache.

Just uncheck this or tell IE he can go "on the internet". Actually it won't go to the internet (you may have to check your connection tab or swithc off your modem if you are really afraid to pay for your connection). It will then go to http://localhost/ which is the test web site on your local computer.

As a side note, it's generally best to ask about the original problem rather than on a solution you came up with so that one could suggest another better solution to the real problem you have rather than to help with a less easy workaround..

AFAIK , you cannot install IIS without performing ilegal hacks on the operating system

However Cassini will run on Windows XP home as the Internall VS2005 preview and the previous VS2003 webdeveloper tools are cassini based you should not have a problem .


I strongly recomend you to use at least Windows XP pro for development purposes

On that note, doesn't VS2005 come with a development-and-test licence
version of Windows Server 2003?

My VS2003 Professional did, but that may have been because it was the last
edition before VS2005 was released.
