Creating A Movie Player?

Hi.

I am playing with the idea of creating a embedded movie player for my
site.
The player must not be a downloadable software, but something that can
stream videos. I know that there are a lot out there, so, that is why i
am here.
There are the ones i see surfing on the net, like QuickTime,
Microsoft's Media
Player, and Real Media. And, there is the player from google videos and
youtube.
Can some kind soul tell me how i go about creating my own? I am just
interested
on how this is done. I am working in ASP.NET and VB.NET with
javascript. I am
guessing that I need a thirdparty media SDK to do this? Such as the
Windows
Media Encoder Studio Edition? Is that how the guys at youtube developed
theirs?
Any experienced advice to send me in the right direction would be much
appreciated.

There are probably thousands of man-hours development gone and going into
existing players like MP, QT and RP, so I would advise you use one of the
existing ones.

yes, i realize that my question is sort of a silly one.
as an aside, i am wondering what player is being used by google video
and/or youtube?
