Visual Studio 2005 Pro

I've just installed my new Visual Studio 2005 Pro, after realising that the
web express edition didn't do all I wanted.

I was surprised to see that no product activation was required. Why is this?
Have I installed it wrongly? I assumed all new product would require
internet activation.
Or should I have removed the web express edition first?

Correct there is no product activation. Not all Microsoft products implement product activation.
Those that do are typically the ones that are most likely to be pirated.

I probably would have uninstalled the Web Express but if everything is working properly I would just
leave it at this point.

I didn't remove the web express edition because I wanted to continue with
some of the projects I'd created. As it only said I should remove
pre-release versions I assumed it would work ok. All is ok so far, but we'll
see.

You should be able to open your existing web sites (started in VWD) in
Visual Studio without difficulties. Once you're sure there are no issues,
you can then remove VWD if you want to.
