combobox/text weird behavior on text display

..NET framework 1.1
Client/development: XP professional SP2

When I click on the combobox to change the display value, the text scroll
left off the .text area and dark blue backcolor make it completely
unreadable. This happened to not only combo box but gridview columns as
well.

Is there a fix for this?
