It's real hard to get the very basic info from you so that we (or anybody else) can help but you mistakenly (? ;-() mentioned that you use Kaspersky anti-virus (as kind of firewall). I suggest you post your question here: http://forum.kaspersky .com/index.php?showf orum=4

I also suggest that you include what version you're using, that you do not run an MS SQL server, that you are a novice and would like to get step-by-step (screen-by-screen) instructions. As a general advice: it usually helps to be a bit more calm and modest -- you not only use friends (we ain't and shouldn't necessarily be either) but also lose willingness to help as well. And if the most important thing for you is to get it sorted out, try your best to get the solution whatever it takes -- even if it takes stopping shouting and abusing people.

It was a pretty simple analogy, I guess it wasn't "simple25" enough.
But at any rate, this is website for technical questions yes, more specificly this section is for SQL based questions.
So, if your problem is with a piece of software you have, kindly exercise SOME form of brain power and deduce that you should take your inquery up with the correct people, i.e. those who develope and provide customer support for it.

We're not here to wipe the mouth of some spoiled brat with a napkin when they make a mess, nor are we here to be someone's verbal punching bags.
We attempt to provide help and support, on a volunteer basis, to those who need it and maybe not to those who obviously don't deserve it.

PS: Last time I check mmccarthy was kind of important around here, so arguing with her isn't helping you

        I not using SQL anything.
I am using firewall provided by my anti-virus not windows.
I can't seem to close port 1434 to prevent virus worms.
        There's gotta be a way.
Is (was) port 1434 open in the first place?
If you are not running SQL Server then it will not be, and 'blocking' it will not add any extra 'security' to your system.
Just because a port is not blocked, does not mean that the port is open. Ports are only vulnerable when you a have program or service (such as SQL Server) running and listening on that port. If you do not have SQL Server on your machine, 1434 should not be open, and you are not vulnerable to an attack against that port.

I see. That makes sense. My anti-virus was telling me that an attack was on port 1434, so I wanted to make sure everything was safe.

Thanks for your elaborate, logical, and sound explanation. It really makes a difference with the mediocrity of people that can surround a community.

In all fairness to the others whom responded to this post, your initial statement in the thread had an air of hostility to it. This is a community, and you get out of it what you put in. Everyone here is a volunteer, we do not get paid, nor to we typically get thanks for the help we give. Please keep this in mind; the experts may be as baffled with your problem as you are.
