Install SQL 2000 on Win XP Home

    Hello there!

I am trying to install MS SQL 2000 Server on Windows XP Home edition.
I found in Microsoft that the above installation is possible.
But when i run the installation, i am getting a black screen that is
closes after a second. Nothing else happens.
Any ideas how to troubleshoot this?

    Thank you

You don't mention which version of MSSQL you're installing (MSDE, Developer,
Evaluation...), but if it's MSDE, then you may have this issue:

Also, please check this article, especially points 34 and 35:

If these articles aren't helpful, please consider posting your sqlstp.log
file, along with the version of MSSQL that you're installing.

First of all thank you very much for the reply.
I am trying to install MS SQL Server 2000 Developers Edition.
I tried also to find the sqlstp.log file but with no success. There is
      no such a file.
When i start the installation it just opens a window and it closes
      instantly without any message.
      Thank you

In order to get some more information, you could try running setup.exe
from a command line, instead of using the graphical installation
dialogue (at least that's what I assume you're doing now). Then if it
dies, hopefully the window will remain open with some sort of error
message. Without something more to go on, it's hard to say what the
        issue might be.

          Hi again!
I think I found what what going wrong. I did as you mentioned above. I
opened a command line and after executing the setupsql.exe there was
          an error:
'Progrman too big to fit in memory'!
It seems that the executable is corrupted because I tried the
installation on 3 different machines (two of them windows 2K and one
          windows xp pro).

Thank a lot again for the help!

          Regards
          Dima
