SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 together

    Hi,

I have installed a instance of 2005 on my 2000 server. However, the 2005 instance will not start.

i get an error of checking the registration details...but they ar ok.

What should be in "all program" list for sql 2005. I think the 2005 did not install correctly...

    Thanks
    David

    Hi there,

Which version of SQL 2005 did you install? The one comes bundled with Visual Studio or SQL 200 Express Edition? If you have installed SQL 2005 from the bundled option please re-install the Express Edition all over again.

I had the same problem, re-installing SQL 2005 Express Edition was my solution. In fact am running both SQL 2000 & 2005 on the same machine without any problem. Good luck & Take care.

      Hi Sashi,

We have the Enterprise Version. What I think has happened was SQL2000 was installed and an instance of 2005 was installed, but no components of the 2005 server has installed as a result. When I go to the installed program list, SQL 2005 is not displayed.

Can you confirm if that is correct - I do not think so.

If I just want an instance of 2005 (and not replace 2000) do I need to install the whole SQL 2005 (we are installing the IA64 bit version)

      regards,

      David
