how do you use python

i recently downloaded the latest version of python:python 3.1.2
and whenever i start my menu the applicatinos do not show up, so this is an embarrassingque stion but how do you use python, and how do you turn it on?
if you answer can you please give a step by step method for me.. i am understanding challenged

What operating system are you on? Probably just start IDLE, which is both a text editor and a prompt. Otherwise go to a command prompt and type "python".

Best bet is to find a tutorial. The python docs are a reasonable place to start, although most of the free on-line tutorials tend to assume some level of basic competence. Perhaps buying a text book, or signing up for a course would be your best bet.

go to start menu, go to python, there are two programs you can open in that folder, so don't open the terminal one, open the one written GIU or something,
