Need a quick rundown on pyGTK

After seeing a few references, I checked out the web page for pyGTK, but it seems to be written for someone who knows what it does. I did find a print interface that seems a little more intuitive than the wxPython printout library, so it seems intriguing.

Can someone sum up what the package addresses overall? I'm on Windows, in case it's for some other platform -- I couldn't tell.

Upon further investigation, Windows support look functional, but perhaps dicey:

21.1. How do I get PyGTK running on MS Windows?
(Assuming you really want to do this, you should be aware that PyGTK works reasonably well on Windows, much to the credit of GTK+, Python and PyGTK developers and porters)
Cédric Gustin maintains the primary windows pygtk site containing win32 ports: [www.pcpm.ucl.ac.be]

Note that, to run pygtk2, you will need a number of prerequisite DLLs. FAQ 21.2 describes the steps to get pygtk running, including getting the dependencies installed and configured.

Here's what wx has to say about it:

wxGTK port
wxGTK is a port of wxWidgets using the GTK+ library available from www.gtk.org. It makes use of GTK+'s native widgets wherever possible and uses wxWidgets' generic controls when needed. GTK+ itself has been ported to a number of systems, but so far only the original X11 version is supported. Support for the recently released GTK+ 2.0 including Unicode support is work in progress.

I'm taking "GTK+ native" to mean Linux. I can see why a person would want to use this setup after looking at the GTK docs. wx has a cleaner, more organized class hierarchy and overall structure (not to mention better widgets). For example, in this post a combo box is a mash of smaller widgets.
