    McMillan Enterprise Installer

I can't seem to find a working web site for this installer. Are there
any mirror sites available which have this application? I need an
installer for Linux based systems, and I heard this was the best.

    Thanks in advance!

There are places you can get it...

        These are both Installer 6a2

Or you can get a few versions from here:

If anyone else has other versions let me know and I'll put them up.
I didn't have copies of the .tar.gz versions of previous releases
I wonder if it would be worth someones while to set up a sourceforge
project for this ... (hint, hint)

In fact I ended up grabbing a copy of the old mcmillan site off the
internet archive. It's now available at

for anyone interested seeing as internet archive can take a while...
(this is just meant as a convenience, I hope Gordon doesn't mind, its
mainly to reflect the now-unavailable information on the installer. I
removed the resume which said don't distribute...).

You didn't search this newsgroup then did you? ;o)

          I've mirrored my copies at:

The 6a2 that's there is Windows-only, the rest are Win/Lin.

I've had moderate success with it on Linux, slightly better than
cx_Freeze, it works better on Windows, but on Windows py2exe is the
          best.

Thanks for all of the responses! I downloaded installer_5b5_5 .tar.gz
and it works like a charm!!

            Much Thanks,
            Chris

P.S. It would be great if someone made a sourceforge page for this
            and kept it updated. :)

Great, I've added these to my mirror at

Anybody have any other copies? Was version 5 ever released? does 6a1 exist?

I think I've got many (most?) of the releases made (r_02, b_03f, 3g,
                4a1-2, 5a0, 5b1-5 with variations and 6a2), but to be honest, I
wouldn't know much of a reason to be using anything other than 5b5_5
or 6a2 if someone were looking to download it at this point, so
holding on to too many others may just be confusing. I suppose a
pre-5b1 variant since that's when older specs could break (if they
didn't explicitly analyze _mountzlib), but folks with those files
would presumably already have copies of Installer they were using.

Well yes, but you can't really do that without Gordon's permission,
especially as he still seems to be developing it (6a2).

Well you could because its under the MIT license so he's already given
permission ... at least a central reference to the program thats
                    accessible would be good
